Electric Forest Music Festival

Electric Forest

If you haven’t noticed already, I’m kind of into music. So I started another blog called “Glow Sticks.” Follow my blog for my reviews on artists and music festivals around the United States so you can be sure to make the right decision for this summer.

Summer of Love

Hippie Chic

This summer is all about hippie chic, grabbing inspirations from ’60s icons with their earthy color palette, bangles, head wraps and free-spirited fashion. Who is better to replicate than Janis Joplin herself who exemplified the era to the tee. Unfortunately, I can’t travel back into time to attend Woodstock to draw from the real essence of  psychedelic fashion but I’ll do my best.

Here’s a list of neo-psychedelic wear …

1) A beach bag (included with sand, ocean waves and a virgin daiquiri)- Free People

2) Stimulate your next music festival experience by wearing these vibrant color options- Urban Outfitters

3) The traditional bell bottom pants with a twist - Obey

4) A poncho for when you’re camping and it starts to get chilly or wedges for when it’s warm- PacSun

Workout Video Pick: P90x

Workout videos are great when you’re busy with your summer jobs and soaking up the sun. Who really wants to make the trip to the gym to workout for an hour when you can workout for 20-30 minutes and get the same results if not more.

My favorite workout video of the summer is P90x. Yes, the website does suggest about an hour for a full workout but the nice part about having your own video is that you can stop, pause or resume the video for a quick water break. I worked out today to the plyometrics video and I only lasted about 20 minutes, you definitely have to get used to the video on a consistent basis to move up to a full hour workout.

There’s 12 different p90x videos you can choose from including chest & backplyometricsshoulders & arms, yoga xlegs & backkenpo xx strengthcore synergisticschest shoulder & tricepsback & bicepscardio x andab ripper x. The hard part about p90x is selecting which video to workout to but once you’ve picked your favorite it will be your go to workout video for life.

The Hottest Music Festivals of the Summer

Just because Coachella is over doesn’t mean that music festivals are done for the summer. Music festivals are a great way to get back to earth, relaxing while listening to several of your favorite artists will start your summer off right.

The High Sierra Music Festival is from June 30th to July 3rd in Quincy, California featuring artists like My Morning Jacket, Dr. Dog and Younder Mountain String Band.

Electric Forest Festival, formerly known as Rothbury Music Festival, begins the same weekend as the High Sierra Music Festival is located in Rothbury, Michigan. The fest features electronic jam bands like Bassnectar, The String Cheese Incident, and Lotus.

Electric Daisy Carnival starts June 24th through the 26th with bands like Tiesto and David Guetta in Las Vegas, appearing in Colorado June 11th.

Lollapalooza starts August 5 through the 7th with Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Deadmau5 in Grant Park Chicago, IL.

Bonnaroo music festival celebrates 10 years with headliners like Eninem and Lil Wayne to the Black Keys and Neil Young. The fest begins June 9th to the 12th in Manchester, TN.

So no matter where you live there is a music festival near everyone. Just remember to bring your tent, sun screen and a lot of water.

College Talk: Internships

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean college students should give up trying to look into internships. Just like in school, when you plan ahead on a project you usually always succeed with time left over and no stress. That same motto works for internships, it’s always best to look into what you want as your next internship before applying.

It’s also a good idea to research your top internships and what requirements they are looking for in an intern. Some of the best resources and websites to use when looking up internships is none other than www.internships.com.

Internships.com is free and the website allows students, employers and educators to interact with each other. I found two of my current internships using this site and I plan on using this site for my future internships. When you’re set up on this website you can create your profile and attach your resume. Within a couple of days after setting up my profile and applying to various internships I had already received a call from one of the internships setting up an interview, it really is that easy.

Another good idea is to get set up on LinkedIn, a new trend that allows employers and students to interact with each other. This site is professional and a great tool to connect with past employers and current employers. This site makes it easy to look for your next job and use your connections to help your career for the future.

Top 5 Best Indie/Urban Fashion Websites

This summer it’s all about getting back to nature and showing your wild side by sporting tribal dresses, wild wedge sandals and crochet tops. When I’m packing for a summer getaway or when I’m just strolling around my neighborhood I always like to have my fashion essentials but sometimes the shopping part takes a little longer than I hope for.  Sometimes shopping becomes an all day event so online shopping really does come in handy.

Hopefully, these online shopping sites will limit your time browsing through endless amounts of ‘just okay’ clothes.

1. Nasty Gal - the edgy store may sound too raunchy but in reality the clothes featured on this website is a fashionista’s dream come true. My favorite summer pick from this store would have to be Nasy Gal’s Mink Pink Inca Trail Dress and the Lily Crochet top (shown to the left). The only problem with Nasty Gal is that I have too many favorites.

2. Storm in a Teacup - the most authentic hand made jewelry and accessories created by a woman in London. The jewelry brushes upon art and nature, your friends will definitely be asking you where you got these pieces. My favorite piece of jewelry from this site would have to be the Gothic Garden Ring.

3. Urban Outfitters - my favorite store, offers a range of styles from bohemian to retro, a store with a unique fashion reputation. My pick of the summer goes to the Jeffrey Campbell Mariel wedges offered online only, I mean every girl needs a pair of wedges for the summer. Urban also has some of the cheapest feather hair accessories as well.

4. Free People- a chain linked to Urban Outfitters showcases dream catchers, feather hair clips to earthy clothes that make a bold fashion statement. To show off your wild side, there is the Animal Godet Tank Dress. Just like Urban, Free People offers many different styles such as tube dresses, ‘Margarita shorts’ and embroidered flora pullovers that are perfect for beach wear and hot summer nights out.

5. Threadsence - an indie clothing store highlights sequin shorts an aztec crossover purse and a savvy crochet skirt.

Across the Universe photo shoot

I mixed in themes of man-made materials with nature, photography along with writing has always been a hobby of mine. Without photography the world would definitely not be as memorable.
